Peter Siggins
Peter Siggins was the presiding justice of Division Three of the California First District Court of Appeal. He served on the court from 2006 to 2021. Gov. Jerry Brown (D) appointed Siggins as presiding justice in July 2018. Siggins was retained by voters in the general election on November 6, 2018. He retired on January 19, 2021.[1]
Siggins previously served as an associate judge on the First District Court of Appeal. Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger (R) appointed Siggins in December 2005. He was sworn in on January 6, 2006. Siggins was retained by voters in 2010.[2]
Education
Siggins received a B.A. from Loyola Marymount University in 1977 and a J.D. from Hastings College of the Law in 1980.[3]
Career
From 1980 to 1983, Siggins practiced general civil litigation and maritime law with the firm of Acret & Perrochet in San Francisco. He was in solo private practice from 1983 to 1985 and then with the small firm of German & Siggins from 1985 to 1988. Siggins joined the correctional law section of the attorney general's office in 1988, and in 1999, he was named chief deputy attorney general for legal affairs. Siggins left the attorney general's office to become Gov. Schwarzenegger's legal affairs secretary in 2003. From September to November 2005, he also served as the governor's interim chief of staff. He was appointed to the California First District Court of Appeal in December 2005 as an associate justice. In July 2018, Gov. Brown appointed Siggins as presiding justice.[3]
