2015

The city of El Paso, Texas, held elections for mayor and city council on May 9, 2015. The filing deadline for candidates who wished to run in this election was February 27, 2015. Five of the eight city council seats were up for election, including Districts 1, 5, 6 and 8. In District 1, candidates included Richard C. Bonart, Manuel J. Hinojosa, Peter Svarzbein, Bertha A. Gallardo, Daniel Lopez and Albert Weisenberger. Because no candidate received a majority in the general election, the top-two candidates — Svarzbein and Weisenberger — advanced to a runoff election on June 13.[1] Svarzbein was the winner.[2] Incumbent Ann Morgan Lilly did not run for re-election.[3]
