There was be a Phelps County Sales Tax Increase on the April 6 ballot in Phelps County. It was approved.

Due to insufficient funding for the county 911 emergency dispatch, the county council proposed a one-quarter of a cent sales tax increase in order to help fund this service. At the time of this election, the emergency service got its main funding from a surcharge on land-line phones, but many of the calls began coming from cell phones so they were not getting as much revenue from that charge. Around $1.8 million was estimated to be generated for the service, more than enough, according to council members, to keep the service running. If the measure had failed, the council said they would look at implementing a cell phone charge.

	Shall the County of Phelps replace the 911 tariff on local telephone service with a county sales tax of one-quarter (1/4) of 1percent for the purpose of providing central dispatching of fire protection, emergency ambulance service, including emergency telephone services, and other emergency services?
