I am a life long resident of Guilford County. My career in law enforcement spands 32 years. Serving 30 years as a sworn deputy sheriff with the Guilford County Sheriff's Office. My supervisory and command experience consist of 9 years as a Detective Sergeant, 3 years as a field operations Lieutenant, and 10 years as a Captain at the command level. My experience began as a Detention officer. I held the position as a patrol officer, as well as a Detective for 13 years, serving as a supervisory Narcotics Detective for 6 years. I also was assigned as a major crimes investigator and financial crimes investigator. I completed my career as a District Field Operations Commander.
  • Building Trust and transparency practices within the communities within Guilford County are my primary emphasis as I enter the Sheriff's Office
  • Creating a professionally lead environment for all staff members. Focusing on building talented careers with a "community first" mindset.
  • Strategies to increase the retention and a quality applicant pool. Attracting career minded individuals with the qualities that resonate with the with the needs of our communities.
Timely response to Calls for Service.

Campaign website

Byrd's campaign website stated the following:

Four Key Strategies:

  1. Leadership. The Sheriff sets the example and policies to be followed. Leadership will build, or tear down the organization. My plan is solid leadership to restructure how service is delivered by the Guilford County Sheriff’s Office.
  2. Create an environment that increases the morale across the Sheriff’s Office. Fairness, officer value, honesty, and the opportunity for an officer’s growth and ambition to be recognized.
  3. Restructure the organization to provide peak performance necessary to carry out the many services and responsibilities to the citizens. Reallocate resources to positions that will be more responsive to our citizens and reduce the risk of violent crime.
  4. Implement Strategies to give officers “ownership” and responsibility to the outcomes of their performance. Officers welcome challenges when they are part of the planning and problem solving within their assigned communities. They must feel empowered to make the difference.
