Campaign themes
2014
Hardenburger's campaign website highlighted the following issues:[1]
Protect Our State’s Agricultural Resources
- Excerpt: "Agriculture is the backbone of our state’s economy. I will work hard to ensure that our state’s important land and water resources are being utilized efficiently. We need to improve the management of water in agriculture and food systems without compromising the use of water for human and environmental needs."
Prioritize Property Tax Relief
- Excerpt: "Property taxes are simply too high. The loss of aid to cities and counties has put undue pressure on already burdensome property taxes. I will fight to return state aid to cities and counties to relieve that burden. I will also work to promote fair property evaluations."
Promote Meaningful Job Growth
- Excerpt: "Nebraska has a very low unemployment rate and its workers are willing to work hard, which puts us in a great position for growth. But we can do better. I will prioritize the development of jobs that encourage college graduates to stay in their communities. The “brain drain” is a problem in Nebraska’s communities, both urban and rural, and it is necessary that we address this problem by improving our state’s job climate."
Uphold the Value of Education
- Excerpt: "Maintaining a strong education system is the best way to ensure that Nebraska’s children have a fair chance to succeed. From early childhood education to K-12, we must make sure that all children have access to the educational tools that will prepare them to become productive members of society. Higher education, whether through universities or technical schools, must also be affordable and accessible for all Nebraskans."
