Campaign website

Heimlich’s campaign website stated the following:

Beating Inflation
The true cause of inflation is allowing debt to get out of control and our government running up trillion dollar deficits financed by printing and borrowing money. The result is our country is in the red to the tune of $34 trillion, while Washington politicians pass on the bill to our children and grandchildren. Simple math dictates that this will always result in rising prices. The only way to stop this runaway debt train is to balance the federal budget and continually pay down our national debt every year. That’s why I support a constitutional amendment that would require a balanced budget, just like the constitutions of almost every one of our states require. My pledge as a member of Congress is that I will never vote for a budget that isn’t balanced.

Phil Heimlich believes in fiscal conservatism across the board, regardless of which party is in power. When he’s elected, he’ll demand a balanced budget, not follow the party line.

Respecting the Law
As a prosecutor, I didn’t care whether the rapist, murderer, or white-collar criminal I faced in court was a Republican or a Democrat. They were going to prison. When law-abiding citizens are attacked on the streets of our cities, the offenders should be punished, regardless of their political leanings. That includes so-called “protesters” who burned down parts of Portland after the murder of George Floyd and the rioters who besieged the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2020, injuring 140 police officers.

As your Congressman, I’ll respect the rule of law, regardless of the political leanings of the offenders.

Protecting Our Democratic Freedoms
Our Founding Fathers said, “We are a government of laws, not men.” Those on the extremes of our political system are trying to peel away our rights to free speech, free and fair elections, and freedom of religion. In recent years, former democracies like Hungary and Turkey have lost their freedoms and slipped into autocracies. Let’s not follow their example.

When I’m in Congress, I will fight to protect the freedoms we hold dear, not the power held by a political party or any individual.

Restoring Civility to Public Discourse
Not long ago, political leaders had the strength of character to respectfully disagree with one another and govern “with malice toward none,” as Abraham Lincoln said. Today, weak leaders resort to using abusive, bullying, and profane language and lies to gain power by any means necessary. Some even spread anti-Semitism or cheer on those who commit violence. Through all my years as a public official, I never engaged in such tactics. When I give press interviews or speeches or in the articles I write, I use strong, direct language to express my views, but I do not speak disrespectfully of my opponents.

As your Congressman, I will seek to conduct myself as a statesman and treat all people — my supporters and opponents alike — with respect.[2]
