An effort to recall Phil Pavlov, a member of the Republican Party, from his elected position representing District 33 in the Michigan State Senate was launched in September 2011.[1] Organizers announced in mid-April that they did not have enough signatures and were ending the effort.[2]
On their third attempt a group of citizens saw recall language they submitted against Pavlov unanimously approved by the St. Clair County Election Commission on October 24, 2011. The language stated that Pavlov failed to represent his district by voting in support of HB 4214 and HB 4361. The bills respectively address the authority of emergency managers and the elimination/reduction of various income tax deductions and credits. The group had to collect 20,466 signatures during a 90-day window within 180 days of the approval of the language.[3]
Path to the ballot
Recall organizers did not collect enough signatures to put a recall election on the November 2011 ballot, and then aimed to put the issue on the August 7, 2012, ballot. The group began collecting signatures on January 7.[4]
They announced they would stop collecting signatures the second week of April and see if they have the 20,466 necessary to make the ballot.[5] When it was evident that they did not have enough they called off the effort.
