Phil Webster (Democratic Party) ran for election to the Indianapolis City Council to represent District 21. Webster lost in the general election on November 7, 2023.

Webster was previously a 2016 Democratic candidate for District 35 of the Indiana State Senate.[1]

Biography

Phil Webster was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He attended Milligan College for his undergraduate degree and Purdue for his advanced degree.[2]

Born six days before the attack on Pearl Harbor - Dec 1, 1941 - Phil grew up just outside Pittsburgh, Pa. He moved to Indiana after graduating from Milligan College in the mid-1960s and began his career teaching high-school history and government. Not long after he was hired to teach at Decatur Central High School where he also served as the varsity baseball coach. Coach Webster's accomplishments are legendary, including 7 Marion County Championships, 11 Sectional Championships, 2 Regional Championships a Semi-State and led Decatur to its first ever 4A State Championship in 2008. Phil retired from teaching in 2016 but continues to coach baseball at Southport High School. He lives in Camby with his wife Lorrie. He is the father of one daughter and two sons.

A City County Council member has an opportunity engage with constituents directly and to build relationships in a way that is not possible on a state or federal level. Council members are also more accountable to voters for positions they may take.
