Philip E. Smith (Tennessee)
Philip E. Smith (Democratic Party) was a judge for Division IV of the Tennessee 20th Judicial District Circuit Court. He left office on September 4, 2022.
Smith (Democratic Party) ran for re-election for the Division IV judge of the Tennessee 20th Judicial District Circuit Court. He won in the general election on August 4, 2022.
Smith was appointed to the court by former Governor Phil Bredesen on March 18, 2009, to replace Judge Muriel Robinson.[1][2][3][4] Smith died on September 4, 2022.[5]
Education
Smith received his undergraduate degree in criminal justice from Tennessee State University in 1984 and his J.D. degree from the University of Tennessee College of Law in 1988.[2]
Career
Smith began his career in October 1988 as an assistant district attorney for the 20th Judicial District, working in the Child Support Enforcement Division. He then joined the Norman Law Offices in September 1990. In March 2001, Smith co-founded Robinson and Oglesby. Also, from 1990 to 1994, he served as a special judge for the Davidson County 2nd Circuit Court, 5th Circuit Court, Probate Court, and as a special referee for the Davidson County Juvenile Court. He was appointed to the Twentieth Circuit Court in 2009.[2][1][6]
