Mount Holly, New Jersey: Gov. Christie both nominated and administered the public swearing-in ceremony for new judge Philip Haines, who will serve on the Burlington County Superior Court (Vicinage 3) in New Jersey. He will serve in the Family Division. Haines, a former state Senator representing the 8th District, actually took office on the Superior Court in October after a private swearing-in. Christie praised Haines's integrity, common sense and ability to solve "real world problems" during the public ceremony, which took place on December 11, 2010. Judge Ronald E. Bookbinder, who is serving on assignment in Burlington County, also complemented his new co-worker, saying, "He is smart, he is honest, and he is a hard worker...And most of all, he is very fair and we are delighted to have him."

Haines had previously worked as a private practice lawyer and, beginning in 2007, a state Senator. Prior to his election to the Senate, he spent eight years working for Burlington County as a county clerk and freeholder, as well as in other positions. He was originally nominated to the bench in late 2009 by Gov. Corzine, but declined the opportunity, saying that he didn't think an outgoing governor should make appointments.[1][2]
