Philip T. Kanning was a Minnesota First Judicial District judge for Carver County, Minnesota. He was appointed to this court in May of 1984. He was elected in 1986 and retained in 1992, 1998 and 2004. He served as the Assistant Chief judge from 1998 to 2002.[1] Kanning retired in 2012.[2]

Education

Kanning received his B.S. degree from Valparaiso University in 1968 and his J.D. degree from the William Mitchell College of Law in 1974. He also received an M.P.A. in 1996 from Harvard University's Kennedy School of Government.[1]

Career

Prior to joining the District Court, Kanning practiced with the following law firms: Jardine, Logan and O'Brien (1974-75); Jerome Jaspers P.A. (1975-77); and Krass, Meyer and Kanning (1977-1984).[1]

2010 election

Kanning was re-elected after running unopposed.[3]
