Hesch received his Bachelors from Indiana University South Bend. He received his J.D.from Valparaiso School of Law.[1]

Career

Hesch works as a public defender and teaches business law at Ivy Tech in Elkhart. Prior to this, he has worked as a law clerk for Elkhart Superior Courts 1 and 2, an interim commissioner, a prosecutor, and in private practice focusing on family and criminal law.[2]

Judicial philosophy

Hesch gave some insight into his judicial philosophy in an interview with the Goshen News on October 21, 2012:

The problem is that our courts unintentionally drift toward thinking that the people serve them rather than the other way around. ...I would hold night court so that people don’t miss work, and change the bond schedule to cash bonds so that the hard-earned money people pay goes towards paying their fines and court costs, not bondsmen. ... I will make timely rulings and partnership with the community to provide lower cost alternatives to current court services that allow people a better chance to succeed.[3]

Hesch ran against incumbent Stephen R Bowers in the 2012 election.[4] He was defeated after receiving 30.9% of the vote.[5]
