Phillip J. Shefferly was a federal bankruptcy judge for the United States bankruptcy court, Eastern District of Michigan. He was appointed to this position in 2003. He served as chief judge from 2009 to 2020.[1] He retired on December 31, 2020.[2]

Education

Judge Shefferly earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Michigan in 1976. He earned a J.D. from Wayne State University in 1979.[3]

Career

Shefferly practiced at Schlussel, Lifton, Simon, Rand, Galvin, and Jackier from 1979 until 1990 and from 1990 until 2003 he practiced at Shefferly, Silverman, and Morris. His practice was concentrated in business reorganizations and Chapter 11 bankruptcies, representing primarily business debtors, as well as some secured creditors, creditors' committees, and other parties in interest in bankruptcy cases. Judge Shefferly also had litigation experience in state and federal bankruptcy courts and state courts.[1]
