Campaign themes

2014

Wright's campaign website listed the following themes for the 2014 race:

I greet you in the most humble way and introduce myself to you as a candidate for the Alachua County School Board, District 3. For the past 43 years, I have worked for students in Alachua County as a teacher, assistant principal, principal, personnel director, and assistant to the Superintendent under the leadership of Dr. William D. Boyd. My experiences have been the most amazing journey of my life. During these 43 years, I feel as though I have been planting my seeds for the opportunity to advance my skills to further improve the education that our children so much deserve. As a matter of fact, all of my adult life has been devoted to making a positive difference in the lives of children.

I now feel that the time has come for me to further my calling for excellence in education by seeking an elected office as a School Board member. It is my desire to bring fresh ideas, positive thinking, and solutions to the school board, in an effort to continue in the rich legacy of fostering well equipped students who will go on to be productive citizens. My experiences and proven leadership as an educator make me uniquely qualified to serve in this capacity.

My decision to run for this office has come after much prayer and consideration. I think the undertaking of public office, especially where children are concerned, is a serious step and should not be taken lightly. I am not pursuing this office as a hireling but for the enhancement of promoting the best opportunities for our families and children. I hope that you share in my vision. Someone once said, “You can go fast alone, but we can go far if we do it together”. My desire is to be an advocate and humble spokesman for the interests and concerns of the parents, students, teachers, and administrators. They are all contributors to a school district of excellence.
