Pierce County Transit Sales Tax Increase (February 2011)
A Pierce County Transit Sales Tax Increase measure was on the February 8, 2011 ballot in the Transit area of Pierce County.

- YES 62,290 (45.73%)
- NO 73,914 (54.27%)

This measure sought to increase the current sales tax by .3 percent making it so that overall the transit authority would receive .9 percent of the collected sales taxes. This was estimated to be able to add near $30 million a year to the transit board's budget. Board members noted that if the increase was not approved services will be cut, mostly on the bus routes offered.[2] The Transit group had hosted meetings to help inform residents about the issue and why the tax increase is needed for the transit system.[3]
The Tacoma city council had approved a resolution which urged city residents to vote in favor of this measure noting that although more taxes are never wanted, supporting transportation in the county was vital for everyone. Several residents also attended the meeting and spoke out in favor of the measure giving various testimonies as to why public transportation was important and in need of continued funding.[4]
