Tucson, Arizona: Pima County Superior Court judge Teresa Godoy sentenced Anthony Zandonatti and Andrew Silverstein this week for their roll in a mortgage fraud scam that swindled financial institutions and would-be home buyers out of $2.4 million. While they could have received a maximum sentence of up to 8 years, Zandonatti received nine months and Silverstein got 90 days in jail, and 500 hours of community service each. The two men - who plead guilty to theft, illegally conducting an enterprise, conspiracy, and money laundering - will also be required to pay up to $1 million in restitution to the renters/potential home owners who they took deposits, down payments, and premiums from towards the purchase of homes, even though they knew the would-be purchasers were unqualified. Judge Godoy said she went with the reduced jail sentence so the men could begin working to pay restitution to the victims as soon as possible.[1]
