A Pitkin County Wireless Services Support Question was on the November 1, 2011 ballot in Pitkin County.

This measure was approved

  • YES 3,146 (79%)Approveda
  • NO 853 (21%)[1]

This measure sought to allow the county to use current tax funds that support the county's FM radio and television translator to also be used to expand the wireless network and increase bandwidth in the area.[2] Prior to the election, the system was already supported by a levy which generates near $600,000 a year. This ballot question was designed to allow county officials to designate a portion of that money to be used to look into using the current system for wireless and broadband services. Prior to the election, the money could only be used for operation of the system and any change in the use of the funds required voter approval. As this measure was approved, county officials sought an outside contractor to develop a research plan which then needed to be approved by the county commission.[3]
