Planned Parenthood Action Fund is a 501(c)(4) nonprofit advocacy group that focuses on sex education policy and policies supporting legalized abortion. The group is the political advocacy arm of Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA), which provides services including abortion, birth control, emergency contraception, HIV services, mental health support and pregnancy testing, as well as sex education.[1]
Background
As of August 2025, the Planned Parenthood Action Fund website listed its mission as "working to promote, protect, expand, and restore access to sexual health care and defend reproductive rights."[2]
Planned Parenthood Action Fund was launched in 1989 by the former president of Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA), Faye Wattleton. The group was created as an advocacy arm of the PPFA. The group advocates political change in favor of legalized abortion and policies allowing sex education concerning unplanned pregnancy and STD prevention.[2]

Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA) cannot engage in activities that are part of the electoral process. The organization may educate voters on issues but must avoid political activities that favor or oppose a candidate or have the effect of favoring or opposing a candidate. PPFA provides services such as abortion, birth control and pregnancy testing, as well as community sex education programs. | Planned Parenthood Action Fund (PPAF) can legally participate in political activity in support of or opposition to candidates for office. It also advocates on access to birth control, as well as sex education that includes pregnancy and sexually transmitted disease prevention. The organization also focuses its advocacy on responding to politicians who aim to prevent those who receive Medicaid and Title X benefits from receiving care at a Planned Parenthood facility.[4] In addition, the group maintains a database of abortion laws by state.[6]
