The 2017 Pocatello-Chubbuck board of trustees election contrasted with the district's 2015 election. All three incumbents seeking re-election in 2017 faced at least one opponent, whereas both incumbents who ran for another term in 2015 saw no opposition. Because there was no opposition, the 2015 election was canceled, and the incumbents were automatically re-elected to their seats. The 2017 election appeared on the ballot, and all three incumbents won re-election by defeating challengers.

Voters approve levy

Voters approved a $9,250,000 two-year levy for the Pocatello-Chubbuck School District No. 25 on March 14, 2017. It passed with over 78 percent of the vote.[11]

Prior to the election, Board Chair Jackie Cranor said the levy was necessary to keep the district running as discretionary funding from the state remained at levels from 2009. The $9,250,000 accounted for 14 percent of the district's operating costs, according to Local News 8. "We appreciate our state lawmakers and what they're doing, but we're just not there yet," Cranor said.[12]
