A Ponchatoula City Council recall was on a special election ballot on November 14, 2009. The recall specifically targeted council members Robert Elzy and Dave Higgenbotham.[1][2]

On August 20, 2009, Gov. Bobby Jindal officially announced that he wants a special election held on November 14, 2009 to determine if either council members should retain their positions. On August 5, 2009 council member Elzy was suspended from his seat after a forcible rape conviction.[4]
Signatures
Recall supporters collected a total of 495 valid signatures to recall Dave Higgenbotham and 350 valid signatures to recall Robert Elzy. Supporters were required to collected more than 40% of signatures of voters in the district. Higgenbotham's district has a total of 880 registered voters, whereas Elzy's district has a total of 530 registered voters.[1]
