A Port Townsend Annexation into Fire District 1 question was going to be on the November 8, 2011 ballot in the city of Port Townsend which is in Jefferson County, but was then removed.
This measure had sought to annex the city of Port Townsend into the Jefferson County Fire District 1 area. An increase to property taxes would also have been implemented, at a rate of $1 per $1,000 of assessed property value. If this had been approved, the current city tax for fire protection services would have likely been repealed so as there would have been incentive by residents to approve the new taxing district.[1]
This question will be postponed until after August 2012 due to remaining questions about assessment costs. The re-assessment of the district's taxes is set to occur in 2012, so delaying this vote would lead to less confusion for voters and a more accurate assessing of the taxes.[2] This measure was then removed from consideration for the ballot and a property tax increase will be implemented instead in the district area.[3]
