Port Townsend School District Operations Levy Renewal (February 2011)
A Port Townsend School District Operations Levy Renewal measure was on the February 8, 2011 ballot in the Port Townsend school district area, which is in Jefferson County.
This measure was approved
- YES 4,412 (67.87%)
- NO 2,089 (32.13%)[1]
This measure sought to renew the then-existing operations and maintenance levy which was set at a rate of $1.17 per $1,000 of assessed property value for a further four years in order to maintain school services.[2] School officials noted that without this renewal school programs would be cut, the state legislature had taken more money away from schools so this renewal was important to maintain current school services, according to proponents. It had not been discussed what would be cut or would happen if this measure had not been approved.[3] The current school levy was set to expire at the end of 2011. School officials expected around $3 million to be generated from this levy per year, with revenue earmarked for school needs.[4]
