Poudre School District Levy Increase (November 2010)
A Poudre School District Levy Increase measure was on the November 2, 2010 ballot in the Poudre school district area, which is in Larimer County.
This measure was approved
- YES 39,864 (56.1%)
- NO 31,197 (43.9%)[1]
This measure sought to increase the school property tax rate by $16 million annually, in order to help further pay for technology upgrades, maintenance of programs and a budget increase to meet the needs of the school district.[2] The school was facing budget shortfalls and reportedly saw this as an essential tax to keep schools running. On average, if approved, homeowners would have been required to pay an additional $130 a year in property taxes. A survey conducted in October 2010 revealed that 57 percent of residents in Fort Collins supported an additional levy increase.[3] According to reports, the funds generated would also be used to restore 139 positions which were cut due to budget shortfalls.[4]
Current Statewide
A 2013 statewide measure, Amendment 66, would authorize Colorado to increase taxes with an expected revenue increase of $950 million for school funding.[5]
