I am a former U.S. diplomat, current Trustee of Bellevue College, attorney, and entrepreneur. I began my career at the U.S. Department of State, where I negotiated international agreements on economic growth, human rights, and environmental sustainability. Today, I live in Bellevue with my family, serve as the CEO of a technology startup, and mentor students as well as young women in startups.

Bellevue is my home. Over the past 17 years, my sons have grown up here. Two are now Huskies at the University of Washington and the youngest is in high school. As a mother, I have seen firsthand both the opportunities and challenges our community faces.

On the City Council, I will bring experience in diplomacy, law, and business to focus on practical solutions that make Bellevue more affordable, sustainable, and safe. My priorities are expanding housing options for families and seniors, solving congestion with smart growth and better public transportation coverage, improving bikeability and walkability so residents can get around safely and easily, supporting small businesses and startups, and protecting our quality of life through education and community investment.
  • Build Housing for a Growing Bellevue While Protecting Our Community Bellevue should be a place where families, workers, and seniors can thrive — not be priced out. I will champion housing solutions that expand affordability while respecting the needs of our neighborhoods. Smart growth means creating more housing choices, supporting young families, and ensuring our seniors can stay in the community they helped build. Growth is coming, and with the right planning, we can keep Bellevue livable and welcoming.
  • Reduce Traffic and Expand Transportation Options to Cut Emissions Traffic is one of the biggest frustrations for Bellevue residents, and it also drives up carbon emissions. I will push for smart growth strategies, expanded public transportation coverage, and safe, connected walking and biking routes. By reducing gridlock and making it easier to get around, we can improve quality of life while lowering emissions. Investing in sustainable transportation will help Bellevue stay vibrant, healthy, and climate-resilient for the future.
  • Keep Bellevue Safe with Balanced and Community-Focused Solutions Every resident deserves to feel safe at home, at school, and in our neighborhoods. I will support strong public safety services while also investing in prevention, including mental health resources, youth programs, and community partnerships to address problems before they become crises. Public safety is not only about policing; it’s about building trust, reducing crime, and ensuring emergency services are equipped to respond quickly and effectively. With balanced, practical and well-funded solutions, we can keep Bellevue one of the safest cities in the U.S.
I am passionate about expanding opportunity. Education and workforce development are central to this. As a Trustee of Bellevue College and a mother of three, I have seen how access to education opens doors and prepares people for meaningful careers. I also believe strongly in supporting entrepreneurship and innovation. As the CEO of a technology startup, I know firsthand how important it is to make it easier for small businesses and startups to succeed. By strengthening education, workforce pathways, and the startup ecosystem, we can create a stronger economy and ensure every resident has the opportunity to thrive in Bellevue’s future.
The Bellevue City Council is unique because its decisions directly shape the daily lives of residents while also influencing the broader Puget Sound region. Councilmembers set local policy on housing, transportation, land use, and public safety, all areas in which the city government has real authority and long-lasting impact. Unlike other levels of government, the Council is closest to the people, with the responsibility to listen, respond, and be accountable.

This role is also important within the state’s legal and governmental framework. Cities like Bellevue have significant discretion under Washington’s laws to manage growth, guide infrastructure investment, and ensure public resources are used responsibly. Bellevue’s position as a regional economic and innovation hub means that City Council decisions affect not just our city, but the Eastside and Seattle.

I bring deep national and local experience to this work. As a former U.S. diplomat, I have negotiated complex agreements and built consensus across diverse interests. As an attorney in Bellevue, I understand the legal frameworks that guide city authority. And as Chair of the Board of Bellevue College, I know how to connect education, workforce development, and community leadership to policy decisions. This combination of experiences prepares me to serve effectively in a role that is both locally grounded and regionally significant.
Integrity. Voters must know that their leaders are honest, accountable, and working in the public’s best interest. An elected official should be the voice of the people, representing and protecting stakeholders, not serving narrow interests.

Analytical and pragmatic. It is not enough to have good intentions; we must design policies that actually solve problems and monitor that they are continuing to deliver results. I believe in carefully assessing challenges, drawing on evidence, and creating solutions that make a measurable difference in people’s lives.

Collaborative. Durable progress requires listening, building consensus, and working across differences. I believe leadership is about bringing people together to create practical solutions that reflect the values and needs of the community.
The core responsibility of a Bellevue City Councilmember is to represent the people of Bellevue and ensure that city government works in their best interest. This includes setting policies that guide the city’s growth, approving budgets that reflect community priorities, and holding departments accountable for results.

A Councilmember must balance Bellevue’s long-term vision with day-to-day needs — ensuring housing is affordable, transportation systems are effective, public safety is strong, and economic opportunities are accessible. Because land use and infrastructure decisions shape the city for decades, this role requires careful analysis, transparency, and community input.

Finally, the position carries the responsibility to listen, collaborate, and build consensus. Councilmembers must weigh diverse perspectives and ensure that the voices of all stakeholders, including residents, workers, businesses, and community organizations, are reflected in the city’s decisions. They must also work regionally with neighboring cities and county leaders to address shared challenges, from housing and transportation to climate and economic growth. Above all, the role is about creating policies that deliver practical solutions and keep Bellevue a thriving, inclusive, and sustainable city.
One little-known responsibility of the Bellevue City Council is advocating for individual residents and stakeholders. Councilmembers are not only policymakers, they are also problem-solvers who help people navigate city services, raise concerns that might otherwise go unheard, and ensure government is responsive at a personal level.

Another important but often overlooked responsibility is oversight. Beyond setting policies, Councilmembers monitor how well city departments carry them out, asking tough questions and ensuring that resources are used efficiently and fairly. This accountability function is critical to maintaining trust in government and delivering results for the community.

Together, these roles show that City Council is not just about passing ordinances — it’s also about listening, advocating, and making sure Bellevue works for everyone.
I believe experience in government can be very beneficial, but it should never be the only qualification. Understanding how policies are created, budgets are managed, and laws are implemented helps an elected official be more effective from day one. My own service as a U.S. diplomat gave me deep experience in negotiation, policy analysis, and representing the public interest at the highest levels. Locally, my work as an attorney in Bellevue and as Chair of the Board of Bellevue College has given me practical insight into how policy decisions affect families, students, and businesses.

At the same time, government needs leaders who bring new perspectives and innovative ideas. Experience should be paired with a willingness to listen, collaborate, and focus on results. What matters most is not whether someone has held office before, but whether they have the skills, integrity, and commitment to solve problems for the community.

One of the most memorable stories I’ve heard when speaking with Bellevue voters is from a Bellevue College recent graduate who became the first in her family to graduate from college. She shared how earning her degree not only opened doors for her career, but also gave her the ability to provide for her family in ways that had not been possible before. Her success shows how education creates stability, builds wealth, reduces stress, and enables students to become well-informed, productive members of our community.

Stories like hers remind me why education and workforce development matters so much to me. When we invest in education, we don’t just transform individual lives — we strengthen families, neighborhoods, and the long-term health of our city.
