Growing Idaho's agriculture

House ethics hearing over allegations of conduct unbecoming (2021)

See also: Misconduct in American politics (2021-2022)

On August 3, 2021, Idaho's House ethics committee voted to recommend that Priscilla Giddings be stripped of her committee assignments, following a hearing over Giddings' conduct when a 19-year-old legislative intern said state Rep. Aaron von Ehlinger (R) sexually assaulted her. Members of the House filed two complaints against Giddings after she shared links to a blog that included identifying information about the intern on social media.[10] The House committee voted unanimously to censure Giddings for conduct unbecoming.[11]

According to Idaho Capital Sun, at the hearing, "Giddings gave an opening statement and said she shared the link to the blog post because she thought media outlets were not presenting both sides of the story. She said she posted the link on Facebook on April 17 and deleted it on April 28, after the ethics committee requested that the woman’s identity be protected. She said she had no control over the thumbnail that showed the woman’s photo, and she said she did not read the article thoroughly."[12]

On November 15, 2021, members of the Idaho House voted 49-19 to censure Giddings and remove her from the House Commerce and Human Resources Committee. Before the vote, Giddings said, “I would not have done anything differently. I think my intention is pure... So vote your conscience and we will move forward, and I will continue to fight for freedom.”[13]

Scorecards

See also: State legislative scorecards and State legislative scorecards in Idaho

A scorecard evaluates a legislator’s voting record. Its purpose is to inform voters about the legislator’s political positions. Because scorecards have varying purposes and methodologies, each report should be considered on its own merits. For example, an advocacy group’s scorecard may assess a legislator’s voting record on one issue while a state newspaper’s scorecard may evaluate the voting record in its entirety.

Ballotpedia is in the process of developing an encyclopedic list of published scorecards. Some states have a limited number of available scorecards or scorecards produced only by select groups. It is Ballotpedia’s goal to incorporate all available scorecards regardless of ideology or number.
