I graduated from Ursuline Academy of Dallas. Leading me to attend St. Mary's University in San Antonio where I graduated with a BA in criminology. I received my JD from South Texas College of Law Houston.
I am the first attorney in my family. I dedicated my legal career to service and community. I began as an Americorps Legal Fellow representing unaccompanied minors. I then went on to be a City of Dallas prosecutor, Dallas County Public defender and non-profit pro bono coordinator for RAICES. Throughout my education and career, I learned the importance of representation, mentorship and working with integrity.- I am one of the few bilingual candidates who has been the only Spanish speaking attorney in many legal settings. I am also one of the few candidate with immigration experience. These skills have allowed me to provide assistance when needed and build trust with my clients. I am understand the responsibility of using these skills to better provide service and legal guidance. As a Mexican American attorney, there are not many and even less who have sought out judicial benches. Currently Dallas County criminal court house only has two bilingual judges. I wish to be another one who can be an inspiration for my community.
- I wish to work with fellow judges to develop programs to assist person in resolving their cases but also new programs of mentorship for other young community members who wish to become knowledgeable of the courts. By developing more programs to allow persons to resolve there misdemeanor charges, they will be able to develop trust in the system and to get their life back on track. In the creating of mentorship programs, more young students will be able to find inspiration to work hard and strive fore more. The bench has the ability to inspire and help others regain focus as the proceed forward through the system.
- I hope to develop a court of transparency and communication. The community understanding the court system will help in building trust with the system. Most persons when dealing with the system are overwhelmed and lack understanding of the process. It is important to build a foundation on respect and not fear. I wish for attorneys and defendants to feel heard regardless of the final outcome. I wish to develop a court team prepared to serve with transparency in the process and court expectations.
