2014

Imam's campaign website listed major themes for 2014:

Q believes in a 5-step plan to get FBISD back on track to achieve high student achievement

  • Community Communication – The School Board took the right step in conducting public workshops and hearing meetings for the currently in-progress facilities planning. This needs to become a norm and not exception for all major decisions in the future. Also, School Board decisions in the past have some times been poorly communicated without sufficient rationale provided to the community. Q will work with School District Administration to help ensure that our communities understand what information is factored into key decisions impacting student achievement, zoning/re-zoning and building (or not building) of new schools.
  • Community Engagement – Q will actively seek out communities that are served by FBISD but have long been underrepresented at the table. Through participation on committees, community outreach events, and an emphasized mentorship program, more parents and community members should have an opportunity to participate.
  • Zoning – Q will collaboratively work with the School Board to help ensure no re-zoning decisions are taken without proper community input and dialogue. Q pledges to work with other Board members to help implement long term zoning solutions including any new major developments requiring a review by the FBISD to ensure adequate planning for future schools has been conducted. A formal process of communication between developers, county/city governments and FBISD will be critical to meet the educational needs in a fiscally responsible and efficient manner.
  • Collegiate & Career Development – Q will strive to foster enduring partnerships with higher education and vocational institutions to devise programs for greater student achievement and long term planning. Q believes that where as FBISD must provide a platform to every student to prepare for college education there also needs to be viable Career and Technical Education options for our students.
  • Teachers are champions – Testing mandates and micro management of our teachers has been detrimental when it comes to teaching independent and critical thinking. Q pledges to reach out to FBISD teachers to better understand how we can out the real craft and art of teaching back in our classrooms.
