Centreville, Maryland: Circuit Court Judge Sidney Campen recently refused to dismiss a suit that challenged the rezoning of 500 or more rural acres to permit development.[1]

The suit argues that the changes to the acres will be in violation of the comprehensive county plan. Alison Prost, Maryland Executive Director of the Chesapeake Bay Foundation, also commented that this ruling is the first test of legislation made to ensure that local zoning measures are consistent with comprehensive county plans, and looks to protect the quality of life and the ways of rural communities.[1]

Judge Sidney Campen ruled in favor of residents and conservation groups such as Queen Anne’s Conservation Association, the Midshore Riverkeeper Conservancy and the Chesapeake Wildlife Heritage on just one of the four properties in the case. Nonetheless, this ruling also prohibits either side from making any moves on the other three properties that remain.[1]
