BOISE, Idaho: The issue of marriage has come up in the state of Idaho, with a ballot measure being placed before voters in 2006. The measure asked voters whether to define marriage between a man and a woman as the only domestic legal union valid or recognized in the state. The measure was approved by voters with a vote of 282,386 (63.4%) to 163,384 (36.6%).

The question was one of three ballot measures approved in 2006, while two other measures were defeated. Of of the rejected measures asked voters to increase K-12 education funding for local public schools by adding 1% to sales tax. The other question would have limited eminent domain.
