Oetjens ran for election to the 19th Judicial District.
Primary: He was defeated in the primary on November 4, 2014, receiving 1.6 percent of the vote. He competed against Cleveland Coon, Mike Davis (Louisiana), Beau Higginbotham, and Jamie Morain Zanovec.

Oetjens received his undergraduate degree from the University of Southwestern Louisiana and his J.D. degree from Louisiana State University.[3]
