Connecticut: Yesterday was the primary election for the Southeastern Corner Regional Probate District, allowing voters in four towns to chose their party candidates for the August general election. Representing Republicans will be Eric Janney, while the Democratic candidate is Nicholas F. Kepple.[1]

Kepple competed against three other candidates in the primary, which he won with 49.7% of the vote. The next closest competitor was Ellin Grenger, who served as judge on the former probate district of Ledyard'. She received 39.4% of the vote.[1]

Janney decisively beat his only opponent, winning 69.5% of Republican votes. He competed against Dean G. Antipas, who also ran for the seat in 2010 and lost.[1]

The election is being held due to the unexpected death of Frederick Palm, Jr., who was elected to the newly consolidated district in November 2010. The area covered as of 2009 are the towns of Ledyard, Stonington, North Stonington and Groton. The general election for the seat will be held on August 16, 2011.[2]
