Rachelle Tome
Rachelle Tome is the former acting Maine Commissioner of Education. She was appointed to the position by Maine Governor Paul LePage (R) in November 2014 to replace Commissioner Jim Rier, who was placed on indefinite medical leave.[1] Prior to her appointment, Tome served as the Chief Academic Officer for the Maine Department of Education.[2]
Tome was replaced by Tom Desjardin on December 23, 2014. She returned to her position as Chief Academic Officer when Desjardin assumed office.[3]
Biography
Tome is a career educator with 25 years experience working in the schools, as a teacher and school principal. She joined the Maine Department of Education 10 years before her appointment by Gov. LePage. At the time of her appointment, she was serving as the department's Chief Academic Officer. Before that, she was a school improvement specialist.[4]
