My name is Rajiv Gowda and I am an immigrant who embodies the American dream and an example of the saying “Anything is possible when one strives hard in America.” I am an Engineer, union leader and a retired public servant who believes in public service and has dedicated my life for the betterment of the hard-working men and women of this State. I have spent the last 25+ years of my life fighting for working families, new immigrants and organizing the local community. I was born in India and came to America the Land of Opportunity and lived a short period in Brooklyn and the rest of my life in North Shore, Staten Island. I have raised two children Rajiv Jr. and Sanjiv who attended public schools, and live in Mariner’s Harbor with my wife and two sons.
  • I am not an establishment or career politician or lobbyist candidate. I belong to the people and our campaign is people's campaign not funded by corrupt corporations.
  • For decades legislators failed the hard working people. We still don't have a public hospital in Staten Island. We need Mental Health Counseling Centers.
  • Our infrastructure is old and crumbling. Staten Island is transit desert and we must reactivate the North Shore Rail Line. BQE is a disaster and we must address the traffic problem now.

I immigrated to USA and left my parents at the age of 27. I missed my mom and dad regardless of visiting them every year. My dad passed away 3 years ago and it bothers me a lot not being there next to my mom and enjoying her company, love, food and guidance.

Benefits: It is democratic. Since its members are directly elected by the people. Easy to maintain and provides a faster process of law making and is applicable in moments of emergency.

Drawbacks: That the members of the chamber can be unduly influenced especially by a ruling government that has majority in parliament but sometimes also by the minority party.

Unicameral legislature do not allow bills to be properly debated before they hastily passed.

Many residents told me they never saw their elected representatives. One NYCHA resident took me inside her apartment, showed me a big hole in the wall, plaster falling off the ceiling and no one bothered to fix even after repeated phone calls and complaints.

Quality of life is bad and the stench form the stairways is so strong, I had to cover my nose while knocking the doors to talk to the registered voters. it is very impactful and make you wonder why we pay no attention to it. .
