Ralph Hudgens
Ralph Hudgens was the Republican Georgia insurance and safety fire commissioner from 2011 to 2019.[1]
As commissioner, Hudgens led the statewide office responsible for regulating the state's insurance industry and oversaw all Georgia fire safety initiatives.[2]
Hugens first won election to the seat in 2010. He defeated Democrat Mary Squires and Libertarian Shane Bruce in the general election on November 2, 2010, garnering over 53 percent of the vote.[3]
Hudgens ran for a second term in 2014.[4] Ralph Hudgens won the general election on November 4, 2014.
Biography
Hudgens worked for the agricultural chemical division of the Shell Chemical Company from 1968 to 1986. He also was founder/president of Quality Propane Incorporated from 1983 to 1987. When he served as state insurance and fire safety commissioner, he had been president of Hudgens Enterprises, Incorporated since 1987. He was also president of Diamond Outdoor Incorporated.[1]
Before assuming the role of state insurance and fire safety commissioner, Hudgens served as a Republican member of the Georgia State Senate, representing the 47th District from 2003 to 2011.[1] Prior to his Senate election, he was a member of the Georgia House of Representatives from 1997 to 2002. In 1989, Hudgens was appointed by President George H.W. Bush (R) to serve as state executive director for the United States Department of Agriculture. He remained in the position until 1992.[1]

Hudgens was elected to the statewide office of insurance and safety fire commissioner on November 2, 2010. He was sworn in on January 10, 2011.[1] Hudgens was re-elected to the position in 2014. As commissioner, he led the statewide office responsible for regulating the state's insurance industry and oversaw all Georgia fire safety initiatives.[2]

Ralph Hudgens endorsed Rick Santorum in the 2012 presidential election.[5] He had previously endorsed Newt Gingrich.[6]

Hudgens ran for re-election as Georgia Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner in 2014. He was unopposed for the Republican nomination in the May 20 primary and defeated two challengers, Democrat Liz Johnson and Libertarian Ted Metz, in the general election on November 4, 2014.[4]

2008
On November 4, 2008, Hudgens won re-election to the Georgia Senate from Georgia's 47th Senate district. Hudgens received 46,257 votes in the election, defeating Tim Riley (D), who received 25,172 votes.[8] Hudgens raised $114,250 for his campaign in 2008; Riley raised $32,414.[9]

1989
