Ralph Winkler was a judge for the Ohio First District Court of Appeals. He served on the court from 1998 to 2004.

Biography

Education

A lifelong resident of Cincinnati, Judge Winkler received his Bachelor’s degree from the University of Cincinnati in 1959. He graduated from Salmon P. Chase Law School in 1970 with honors and was admitted to the Ohio Bar the same year.

Career

Judge Winkler was elected to the First District Court of Appeals in 1998, serving as Presiding Judge in 2004. Previously, Judge Winkler served 22 years as a trial Judge, including 4 years in the Hamilton County Municipal Court (1977-1981) and 18 years on the Hamilton County Court of Common Pleas. He was twice elected Presiding Judge of the Court of Common Pleas.

Prior to becoming a lawyer, Judge Winkler was a Federal Agent for 10 years. After admission to the bar, he served as First Assistant United States Attorney for the Southern District of Ohio.

Judge Winkler retired in 2004.[1]

Accomplishments

Honors received include the U.S. Attorney General's Special Commendation Award for Outstanding Service; the Ohio Supreme Court’s Award for Superior Judicial Service and the Ohio Common Pleas Judges Association and Ohio Courts of Appeals Judges Association Golden Gavel Awards.
