The initial sentence of former teacher Stacey Rambold, who was convicted of raping a 14-year-old female student who later killed herself, amounted to 31 days in prison. The sentence was handed down by Judge G. Todd Baugh, but, after public outcry, was later overturned by the state supreme court. Spaulding was in charge of the resentencing, and, on September 26, 2014, he suspended five years of Rambold's 15-year term for a total of 10 years in prison.[5]
