Randolph Baxter
Randolph Baxter was a bankruptcy judge for the United States bankruptcy court, Northern District of Ohio. He retired from the court in 2011.[1]
Education and early life
A native of Columbia, Tennessee, Judge Baxter earned degrees in political science, Law and his Bachelors degree at Tuskegee University. Later earning his J.D. from the Akron University Law School.[2][3][4][5]
Career
Before his appointment to the Northern District of Ohio Baxter was an assistant United States Attorney in Ohio; deputy director, Department of Public Service, City of Akron; a Courts Planner, County Criminal Justice Commission, Ohio; and adjunct professor, College of Business, Kent State University, Ohio. He has been an adjunct professor in the University of Akron College of Law since 1989.[4]
In 1985, Judge Baxter was sworn in by Nathaniel Jones of the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals making Baxter the first Black judge to hold the position in the Northern District of Ohio.[3]
Awards and achievements
- The Governor's (Ohio) Judicial Leadership Citation and the Special Achievement Award, U. S. Department of Justice
- The Bronze Star for Valor while on combat duty in the Republic of Vietnam.[4]
