Randy Abreu was a Working Families candidate for District 14 representative on the New York City Council in New York. Abreu was defeated in the general election on November 7, 2017.

Biography

Abreu earned his B.A. in history and Latin American studies from Skidmore College. He later received his J.D. from the Thomas Jefferson School of Law. Abreu is an attorney who has worked at the Federal Communications Commission and the U.S. Department of Energy.[1]

New York City held elections for mayor, public advocate, comptroller, and all 51 seats on the city council in 2017. New Yorkers also voted for offices in their boroughs: The Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens, and Staten Island.

Primary elections were scheduled for September 12, 2017, and the general election was on November 7, 2017. Under New York law, candidates who run unopposed in a primary or general election win the nomination or election automatically, and their names do not appear on the ballot.[2] Incumbent Fernando Cabrera (D) defeated Randy Abreu (Working Families), Alan Reed (R), and Justin Sanchez (Liberal) in the general election for the District 14 seat on the New York City Council.

  • Establish green energy initiatives that promote urban sustainable development throughout the Bronx;
  • Retrofit New York City school buses and apartment buildings with locally-manufactured Auxiliary Power Units (APUs), which will cut down on harmful greenhouse gas emissions that pollute our air and contribute to the our community’s asthma epidemic;
  • Enforce existing mold removal laws to protect tenants from the harmful and toxic effects of mold exposure as well as cracking down on landlords that refuse to ensure safe living conditions for their tenants;
  • Demand that NYCHA provide safe, mold-free housing to all public housing residents;
  • Stand up to corporate polluters who create excess garbage in our streets.[4][5]
