VOTE RANDY BOOTHE FOR UTAH STATE SCHOOL BOARD District 13

"A VOTE FOR QUALITY PUBLIC EDUCATION"

Randy's past performance demonstrates his commitment to quality education for Utah's students: 16 years on Nebo School Board, 16 years on Mountainland Technical College Board of Directors, 44 years teaching at BYU, former Associate Dean in the College of Fine Arts and Communications, Beverley Taylor Sorenson Advisory Board member, Oversight Committee for the revision of the Utah Core Arts Standards, Utah Arts Education Collective Impact Steering Committee, BYU Public School Partnership, guest teacher in 42 countries.

Randy partners with Utah's parents, students, teachers, staff, administrators and community leaders to develop a shared focus on effective student learning. He builds bridges of respect as opposing sides of educational initiatives are explored, vetted and strategic plans are formulated and approved. He believes every Board decision must be considered with students in mind.

Randy works to ensure that Utah's children will learn in a safe, nurturing environment where available resources are focused on considering and meeting individual educational needs leading to the growth and well-being of each child.
  • Local control of education; parents, the student and the teacher working together so each student can maximize their potential.
  • Spending decisions made at the local level. I am a fiscal conservative who believe in efficient use of taxpayer dollars.
  • Promote innovation using educational best practices.
In Utah Education, data-driven policy development and strategic planning can result in remarkable targeted growth for each individual student. I know that parents, students and teachers are in the best position to monitor and encourage each child; however, the consistent gathering and organizing of data detailing individual mastery of subject matter and concepts is critical information to inform teachers and parents as they work with their child towards further growth and achievement. Students and their needs must remain at the heart of EVERY decision!
John F. Kennedy once said, "Let us think of education as the means of developing our greatest abilities because in each of us there is a private hope and dream which, fulfilled, can be translated into benefit for everyone and greater strength of the nation." Utah's future depends the critical work of educators to prepare today's children for successful lives in the 21st century.
My 3rd grade teacher in Paul Elementary School, Mrs. Stevens, was the most positive, genuine educator I have ever encountered. Her highly motivating classroom environment set the stage for my life-long love of learning. 60+ years later, I am still committed to providing that same quality education for my students today!
The most important characteristics for an elected official include integrity, trust and accountability, with a capacity to listen carefully, conduct crucial conversations/debates with civility, and settle on a course of action that will benefit your primary constituents to the greatest degree possible.
With limited resources and so many children to nurture and educate, our challenges are many. But when Utah parents and educators roll up their shirtsleeves and go to work, they are famous for making the magic happen with a whole lot of good will. Everything we do is for our students. Their needs are the first things to consider when developing solutions for their education. If we can resist the distractions of 21st century life, and focus on Utah's children, their eagerness to learn will motivate and inspire us to find the solutions we need to find.
"Let It Go" from Frozen; mostly because my granddaughters belted it out non-stop when they saw the movie over and over again.
A member of the State School Board must make every decision with the best interests of public school students at the core of those decisions.
A State School Board member needs the following skills and experience: First-hand experience with multiple levels of education, with local school governance and a keen interest in best practices for education of the whole child.
