Randy Boyd (Tennessee)
Randy Boyd (Republican Party) ran for election for Governor of Tennessee. Boyd lost in the Republican primary on August 2, 2018.
Biography
Boyd is a graduate of the University of Tennessee, which he attended while working at his father's electric fence factory. In 1983, Boyd left his job to sell tornado detectors, then founded Southern Agricultural Cooperative, Inc., which sold agricultural products. In 1991, Boyd launched Radio Systems Corporation, a company which sells a reverse-engineered variant of the Invisible Fence, whose patent had expired the previous year. As of his 2018 run for governor, Boyd remained the owner of Radio Systems Corporation. In 2013, Boyd was selected by Gov. Bill Haslam (R) to serve as an education adviser. Boyd's gubernatorial campaign website touted his work on the Tennessee Promise program, a lottery-funded program which guarantees all participating high school graduates in the state community college tuition and a volunteer mentor. Boyd later held a volunteer role as the state's Economic and Community Development Commissioner.[1][2][3]
