Campaign themes

2014

On his campaign website, Miller highlighted the following issues:[1]

Casino

  • Excerpt: "So, as much as I wanted to believe the promises of the nation, I cannot in good conscious support this casino. I know the alternative uses of the land by the tribe are no better, but if they do put in a shopping center, they at least have to compete with Glendale businesses albeit with a hefty tax advantage."

Sales tax sunset provision

  • Excerpt: "I've developed something I call OPTION 3 - a different solution than the closed-minded "YES or NO." For starters keep the sunset provision, I find a deadline has the effect of getting people motivated. Then let it be known to staff and the citizenry that the entire tax may not be removed in 2017. Instead start to phase it out immediately. As American Furniture Warehouse comes to town and we project an increase in revenue of over 3 million dollars, we could reduce the tax this year alone by .1%, thus showing good faith that we are attempting to replace the tax with revenue. As more businesses come to Glendale,we continue to reduce the tax. Revenue goes up; tax goes down! tax. Even if the job isn't done by 2017, a reduction of .3-.5 % would be better than nothing...again, OPTION 3, proving we don't expect miracles, just commitment!"
