An effort to recall Randy Peck from his position as sheriff in Sedgwick County, Colorado was launched in 2011. The recall was launched due to complaints in the county of the sheriff allegedly using aggressive and excessive force. Some accounts described the alleged beating of a man on July 4, 2011, and other similar accounts have led some citizens to accuse the sheriff of creating "an atmosphere of fear." The recall election was scheduled for December 21, 2011[1] Peck was retained in office.
