2015

Ross' website highlighted the following campaign themes:[4]

Property tax increase

  • Excerpt: "In late 2014, the residents of Orlando received relatively short notice to learn their property taxes would go up by nearly 18%. This to address a $52 million dollar deficit in the overall City budget. I, personally, went to the public hearing to speak out against this property tax increase. Not because I didn’t feel an increase might have been warranted, it was the excessive amount as well as the way the increase was fed to the residents of Orlando."

Transportation

  • Excerpt: "Conduct a resident feedback based traffic study. Go door-to-door if necessary to learn of the opportunities to make the streets of District 4 more resident friendly. With increases in traffic on I-4, as a result of the I-4 expansion project, daily travelers will seek new alternatives to get around traffic challenges. There is a plethora of downtown thoroughfares that will be considered as alternative routes. We need to take a close look at those downtown “expressway” style streets to ensure we develop speed deflectors to ensure safety."
  • Excerpt: "Our City has a horrible record when it comes to pedestrian traffic. In fact, for example, there is no clear safe path from downtown to Baldwin Park. We should utilize this particular route as an example and create a pedestrian friendly bike and walking path to get to Baldwin Park from downtown. Then duplicate the example throughout the City.

Homelessness

  • Excerpt: " I do not support the idea of preventing organizations from feeding the homeless. In fact, I wish the City had more compassion to help change the homeless landscape. The services exist at the Coalition for the Homeless to help address this epidemic. But…and there is a but…we as a City need to embrace changing the opinion that the homeless is not us. In fact, it could be any of us."
