Two Rapid River School District Operating Levy proposals were on the November 6, 2012 election ballot in Delta County, which is in Michigan, where the first was approved and the second defeated.
The first proposal authorized the Rapid River School District to renew the 19.4908 mills ($19.4908 per $1,000 of assessed valuation) property tax rate limit for 9 years in order to fund operating purposes of the District. The estimated first year revenue from this tax, if levied, is $995,281.
If approved, the second proposal would have authorized the Rapid River School District to increase the property tax rate by 0.5092 mills ($0.5092 per $1,000 of assessed valuation) for 9 years in order to fund operating purposes. The estimated first year revenue from this tax increase is $28,975.[1]

Language on the ballot for the first proposal:
“ | This proposal will allow the school district to levy the statutory rate of 18 mills on all property, except principal residence and other property exempted by law, required for the school district to receive its revenue per pupil foundation allowance and renews millage that will expire with 2013 tax levy.
Shall the currently authorized millage rate limitation of 19.4908 mills ($19.4908 on each $1,000 of taxable valuation) on the amount of taxes which may be assessed against all property, except principal residence and other property exempted by law, in Rapid River Public Schools, Delta County, Michigan, be renewed for a period of 9 years, 2014 to 2022 inclusive, to provide funds for operating purposes; the estimate of the revenue the school district will collect if the millage is approved and levied in 2014 is approximately $995,281 (this is a renewal of millage which will expire with the 2013 tax levy)?[2] |
