I’m Raquel Isquierdo-Lopez, a mother of four, and a lifelong advocate for children and families in our community. I grew up in Sunnyside, and my experiences as the daughter of a farmworker and someone who worked in the fields from a young age shaped my commitment to equity and opportunity. Professionally, I’m a registered nurse and a case manager within the school districts, working to connect families with the resources they need to thrive. I’m passionate about ensuring every student has access to a safe, supportive, and high-quality education, and I’m dedicated to engaging families and the community in shaping the future of our schools.
  • 1. Student Safety and Well-Being The safety of our students is my top priority. Every student deserves to learn in an environment that is secure, supportive, and free from hazards, wether it may be physical, emotional, or social. I am committed to policies and programs that protect our students and give families peace of mind. If our children don't feel safe on campus we are not making them a priority.
  • 2. Equity and Access for Every Student I want every child regardless of background, income, or language to have the resources and support they need to thrive academically and personally. No student should feel invisible or as if they don't matter.
  • 3. Family and Community Engagement Schools succeed when families and communities are involved. I am dedicated to fostering strong partnerships with parents, educators, and local organizations so that everyone’s voice is heard and valued. We should be building bridges between families, students, staff, and the district where communication happens and trust is built.
I’m passionate about policies that keep students safe, healthy, and supported. I care very deeply about breaking down barriers to education so every child can succeed, and I believe strong community partnerships are key to giving families the resources and opportunities they need. When the schools and students thrive the community thrives.
I believe the core responsibilities of a school board member are to represent the interests of all students and families (not just a select few), ensure safe and equitable learning environments, and provide oversight of the school district’s policies and budget to make sure resources are used effectively. It’s also essential to listen to the community, not just engage with parents, but also educators, and students, and make decisions that reflect both the needs and the values of the district. Ultimately, a board member should serve as a bridge between the schools and the community, advocating for every child’s success. They should not be scared to ask the hard questions. They should work cohesivly with each other as well as challenge each other if needed. They should be following up with families, students, or staff if they voice a concern. Above all they should always have the students best interest in mind.

One accomplishment I’m proud of is using my experience as a nurse and case manager to help hundreds of children access health and educational resources and also to advocate for my own son when the school system turned its back on him. My work taught me how to navigate barriers, and I use that same drive to ensure every child in our community gets the support they deserve. I'm not scared to voice my opinion and I'm not scared to ask the hard questions.
