Primary: She was successful in the Democratic primary on March 4, 2014, receiving 38.6 percent of the vote. She competed against Stella Batiste Morrison and Nathan Reynolds Jr.
Runoff: Because no candidate received more than 50% of the vote, West faced Morrison in a runoff election on May 27, 2014. West won, earning 56.2% of the vote.
General: She defeated Carolyn Drawhorn Wiedenfeld in the general election on November 4, 2014, receiving 58.3 percent of the vote.

Education
West earned a B.A. in English (minoring in French) from Texas A&M University in 1992. She went on to receive a J.D. in 1995 from St. Mary's School of Law in San Antonio, Texas.[3]
Career
West has eighteen years of experience as a private practice attorney, focusing primarily on criminal and family law.[3]
