|During his two terms as councilmember, Raul has worked to build more affordable housing; championed the Office of Racial Equity; helped protect tenants; and worked with local businesses, big and small, to create economic opportunities as we emerge from this pandemic. Raul serves on the Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) Board of Directors and the Association of Bay Area Governments (ABAG). He Chairs the City’s Public Safety, Finance, and Strategic Support Committee, and is Vice-Chair of the Rules and Open Government Committee.
Raul lives in the Northside Luna Park neighborhood of downtown San José with his wife Victoria, their children Jorge and Sofia, and their two dogs.- As Mayor, I will reverse the trend of homelessness that has increased year after year. I have been a leader on creating permanent housing and shelter solutions within my council district and I will translate that city wide.
- Re-establishing confidence in the safety of our great city is my priority. Our city, just as our country, is at a pivotal point in balancing safety and policing.
- On the City council I have fought to build more housing at all levels to address this crisis. As Mayor, I’ll fight to build more homes for San Jose families to ensure this generation and their children and grandchildren can continue to call San José home.

2014
On his campaign website, Peralez highlighted the following issues:[5]
Public safety
- Excerpt: "Having been a San José Police Officer for the past 7 years I have seen first-hand how our police department has diminished and I've witnessed San Jose become more violent and crime-ridden. We are severely understaffed, with more officers leaving every month, and our streets are less safe because of it. I will focus on rebuilding and strengthening our public safety services and bringing us back to the safe city we know we can be."
Economic vitality
- Excerpt: "As a life-long resident of San José and a regular downtown patron, I strongly support a better plan for economic development. I will focus on filling vacant store fronts, and cleaning up the graffiti, prostitution, drugs and violence so that our customers, employees and investors feel safe and are attracted to downtown once again."
Rebuilding relations
- Excerpt: "There are plenty of other issues being voiced throughout the district like homelessness, clean parks and safe schools, but none of which I feel can be addressed until we fix the true underlying problem. It's no secret that these past few years public employees have been attacked and made to bare the blame of our city’s economic shortfalls. Sadly, sometimes petty disputes between our leaders also cause the community to suffer. Relationships have been strained and our parks, schools, streets and neighborhoods have suffered because of it. The residents of San Jose deserve better."
