Ray Gilmore
Ray Gilmore (independent) ran for election to the New Hampshire House of Representatives to represent Carroll 2. He did not appear on the ballot for the general election on November 8, 2022.
Biography
Ray Gilmore was born in North Conway, New Hampshire. He served in the U.S. Army from 2001 to 2009. Gilmore earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Vermont in 2001, a master's degree from Webster University in 2006, and an associate degree from White Mountains Community College in 2010. His professional experience includes working as a veteran's advocate. He is affiliated with the Azimuth Check Foundation, Iraq, Afghanistan Veterans of America (IAVA), the 10th Mountain Division Association, Disabled American Veterans (DAV), and the Professional Ski Instructors of America (PSIA).[1]

I am a father to four daughters and one son; Ella (12) Evelyn (10), Ray (8), Zelda (3) and Isadora (2)
I am a husband of 13-years, married atop of Mount Washington, at sunrise to wife my Cassie, while I was home on Mid-Tour Leave from Afghanistan.
I am a Veteran. I served in the US Army with the historic 10th Mountain Division, 2ID and the Big Red One. I did two tours in Afghanistan and one in Korea; and completed the US Army Ranger School, Sapper Leader Course, Airborne, Mountain Warfare, and Combat Advisor Courses.
I am a Community Leader, who has leveraged a Masters Degree in Public Administration to assist countless philanthropies and organizations through out the Mount Washington Valley and beyond. Focused on everything from emergency medicine to youth sports, to historical preservation and environmental conservation.
I am committed to bringing Values Based Leadership to Concord.- My LOYALTY does not lie with a party; it lies with the Constitution, the state of NH, and the residents I represent. I believe that it is my DUTY to serve the people, not political ideologies.
- I lead with RESPECT and Treat ALL people as they should be treated; not just the ones who look like me, or vote like me. I refuse to stereotype individuals based upon race, color, creed, gender, orientation, or any other discriminatory category, including political party or beliefs, because it is wrong.
- I have lived a life of HONOR and SELFLESS SERVICE, by always putting the welfare of my neighbors, state, and nation before my own health, wealth, or reputation. I have never been one to bow to peer pressure or a party influence; and I never will.
In my county, we face rising addiction, a mental health crisis and a suicide epidemic; exacerbated by the COVID Pandemic, prolonged lock downs and social isolation. As a veterans advocate, I have fought this battle for years, and now see it spreading across our county, state and nation. There is more we can do. There is more that we must do.
As a lifelong adventurer and outdoors enthusiast, I am concerned with the preservation of our natural spaces, which have suffered from overuse by tourists and the poor behavior of vandals and miscreants. We must strive to protect our winters and preserve our playgrounds; or they will not be there for our future generations.
My grandfather was a surgeon, my grandmother a nurse. Both served in World War II, and as a young child I would beg to hear the stories of their service. As an adult I learned that my grandfather started one of the first methadone clinics in Chelmsford Massachusetts, to serve their fellow veterans who had developed heroin dependencies after the war, and that my Grandmother, was cut off during the Battle of the Bulge, and was on the front lines liberating concentration camps.
My maternal Grandmother was a single mother, in the 1970's who defied religious & social pressure, to escape an abusive relationship. She worked in the US Postal service and became a post master, while raising 4 children on her own. She dedicated her retirement to her community and family.
My parents continued that legacy of service and passed on that tradition to myself and my brother. My mother received her GED, attending night school while I was a toddler, she continued on to receiver her bachelors and masters degrees; volunteering to assist victims of domestic violence and rape, driven by her own experiences as a child. She served on the local school board, and with countless organizations across our community. My father started his own carpet installation business before I was born, and would travel to Boston on a daily basis to ensure that our family had a roof over our heads, food on the table, and insurance for medical, dental and vision. In spite of all of that travel, he never missed a game, meet, or match. He volunteered as a coach, and a board member for the various clubs and organizations my brother and I participated in.
The set a standard that I aspire to every day, as a father, a husband, a veteran and a community leader.

I have focused my campaign, on candid conversations with my future constituents; because Constituent Services are the most important responsibility of any representative.
In Carroll-1 there are just over 3,600 residents; I believe that as a representative, with such a small number it is critical to be accessible to all of them, and approachable.
I have been holding "Driveway Discussions" on a daily basis, with residents who identify as democrats, republicans, independents, libertarians and more. I have made it point to reach across the aisle, across generations, and into as many neighborhoods as possible, in as safe a manner as possible in our current COVID world.
I have done this to prove my commitment to being available to the constituents of my community.
We need to return a level of civility to our political process, and we need to work for the people; not against an opposing party.
I was an 8-year old elementary school student in NH, and as such we were all huddled in our school gymnasium to watch Christa McAuliffe, one of our own, a NH science teacher, take off for space.
The most striking memory, of the event, was the look on our teachers faces, as they scrambled to shut off the television. Silent and shocked, in a way that was too obvious to miss. We were still too young to fully comprehend the loss, or to have an emotional response, but we knew that something went horribly wrong as we were escorted back to our classrooms in silence.
I held this job through high school and into my sophomore year of college, approximately 5-years; until I became an advanced EMT and began working as an Emergency Room Tech, and Critical Transport Medic at the UVM Medical Center (formally FAHC).
In the 13-years since that injury, I have undergone 7 surgeries and countless procedures. I have struggled with the depression that accompanies loss and isolation, following a life altering injury.
I struggled with the transition from being an elite soldier, to a civilian; and with PTSD from my exposure to numerous life threatening events.
However, these struggles have made me stronger. They have made me resilient. They have given me a perspective that is not born from success. It has given me with the opportunity to prove that there is life after injury. There is utility, despite disability.
It has given me the opportunity to be a role model to others; from a position that I never expected to be in.
Too often, we revert to tribalism and choose party politics, over personal relationships, and I find this to be a grave mistake that leads to division and unwarranted vilification of potential allies.
It is critical to understand the motivations of the other members of the legislature, and their constituents to be able to craft meaningful solutions to common problems.
Personal connections and strong relationships insulate us from the human condition, that all too often favors tribalism over understanding and cooperation.
(1) State-Federal Relations & Veterans Affairs: As a veteran and veterans advocate, with prior experience in government contracting, I feel that this is a natural fit.
(2) Transportation: I received my Masters degree through the US Army Corps of Engineers, and was trained in both Vertical & Horizontal Construction. As a contracting officer in Afghanistan the construction of roads, wells, schools, clinics and community centers was a primary focus and tool that we used to improve the health and wealth of the communities in my area of responsibility.
(3) Criminal Justice & Public Safety: Police reform, without vilifying our civil servants is a priority for me. My life has been positively affected by the law enforcement officers in it. From the LEOs I served with on Combat Advisor Teams to the Afghan National Police & Border Police, to those who knew at home as members of our community; I believe that there is always room for improvement, and just because our issues are not as bad as Baltimore or St. Louis, doesn't mean that we should stop moving forward.
I want to serve my community to the best of my ability, using the skills and education that I acquired through my service in the US Army.
