Raymond Pettine
Raymond James Pettine (1912-2003) was a federal judge on the United States District Court for the District of Rhode Island. He joined the court in 1966 after an appointment from Lyndon Johnson. At the time of appointment, he served as the U.S. Attorney for the District of Rhode Island. He served as chief judge from 1971-1982. He assumed senior status on July 6, 1982, and served in that position until his death on November 17, 2003.[1]

Pattine served in the United States Army from 1941-1946 and continued to serve in the Army Reserve from 1946-1966.[1]

Judicial career
District of Rhode Island
Pettine was nominated by President Lyndon Johnson on June 13, 1966, to a new seat created by 80 Stat. 75. He was confirmed by the Senate on June 29, 1966, and received commission that very day. He served as chief judge from 1971-1982. He assumed senior status on July 6, 1982, and served in that position until his death on November 17, 2003. Pettine was succeeded in this position by Bruce Marshall Selya.[1]
