Integrity and a spine with which to carry a backbone.
I’ve been a school administrator for the past 13 years and am pursuing a master’s degree from FSU in Business Administration.
To honorably and respectfully represent constituents, to listen more than you speak, and to work diligently towards making policies to address public concerns and to enact what county residents want for the betterment of FCPS.
I'd like to be known as the candidate who dispelled the myth and shattered the misconception that homeschooling is completely separate and apart from the public school system. Homeschoolers, opting for SCHOOL CHOICE (not unlike magnet and charter schools) are tethered to the institution. We are held accountable for our home-instruction programs under section 13A.10.01.01 of COMAR by local county school officials. We're placed under the direct scrutiny of the Superintendent and are required to submit to annual, if not semi-annual, portfolio reviews.
"We Don't Talk About Bruno" from the Encanto soundtrack
Policy Makers - to govern the school system,

Financial Stewards - to establish the budget,
Employer - to negotiate employee contracts, and

Judges - to serve as an appeal body.
Constituents include school leaders, faculty, support staff, alumni, students, parents, grandparents, local businesses, churches, and community partners such as local non-profits.
Parents/Grandparents want to know what’s going on in their local public schools. During my first year, I’ll join the Family Life Advisory and Curriculum & Instruction Committees and hold regular town hall meetings at Butterfly Ridge, Monocacy Middle, and Gov. Thomas Jefferson to inform constituents (in plain terms) about new planned developments and what can be expected down the pike. Hard-working residents of Frederick County who don’t have the time to tune into channel 18 or read minutes from a meeting will be informed. I’ll hold Q&A sessions to hear from parents and community members.
Yes, it's important to recruit young teachers with specific hard skills, such as the ability to speak Spanish. I believe launching a media campaign to message our reverence for the teaching profession, to highlight the benefits of working at FCPS, and to target recruitment of bilingual teachers, could aid in boosting our ranking.
Teachers having to focus on behavioral problems in their classrooms, takes away from her other students receiving a quality education. I'd inquire about our ability to transfer disruptive students to alternative schools and/or place them in trade school programs, mentoring programs, and/or relegate them to a virtual learning setting.
I think we should partner with local non-profits who offer mental health services and community resources to lift the weight off the shoulders of our faculty and staff. Clear communication and messaging regarding need for services should flow from teacher, to guidance counselor, to parent/grandparent in a succinct fashion.
